I started volunteering when I was working at PPF, pension protection fund being involved in different activites where we were allowed to take up to 5 volunteering days off
- Lunchtime reading at local school
- clearing bushes in forests with a bonfire
- Gardening at Good food matters
- Helping with financial literacy training to children with a charity
- Sorting collected coats to be distributed
Avanade gives only one volunteering day to take and use it to run a workshop as part of digital upskilling in a college in Wales.
I only learnt about community conferences after attending the MVP Summit and as I became aware of volunteering opportunites at community events. I decided to reach out to the organisers how I could help. The first time volunteering at a community event was at Commsverse organised by Mark Vale who kindly gave me the role
- packing swag for attendees
- giving away the swag bag to attendees
- Helping attendees with directions
- Helped with registration
- Any adhoc tasks required
I was fortunate enough to facilatate sessions in rooms at South Coast Summit and the sessions I attended were amazing.
